Ardgillan Heritage Trail
Ardgillan Heritage Trail
The team at Ardgillan Castle, in collaboration with Fingal County Council, have created Heritage Trail that will be a free amenity in the public park. The Culture & Heritage Officer at the castle created the project with St Joseph’s Secondary School, Rush. This project included different TY group being brought to the castle throughout the year with their teacher Ms. Dunleavy. The groups were brought on a tour of the trail with the castle manager and got the chance to learn about the hidden features in the landscape. As part of their visit they picked a different aspect of the trail and submitted a piece on this feature. This work was done with their teacher and was a great way to get the students to engage with the history of the park.
The trail is dotted around the park and represents the hidden history that lies in the park. It includes places that are no longer used, buildings that have been demolished and aspects of the park that would have been created in the Taylor’s time, such as the Ice House and the Wells.
Here are some samples of the work that was completed by the group. Big thanks to them for taking part and to their teacher Linda Dunleavy.
