TWO PHOTOGRAPHS AWAY
Blaine O’Donnell
17th August – 5th October 2024
OPENING Saturday 17th August 2-4pm
Curated by Aisling Dunne
Ardgillan Gallery is pleased to present TWO PHOTOGRAPHS AWAY, an exhibition of new work by Blaine O’Donnell.
This work is the result of O’Donnell’s ongoing experimentation with the materials and processes of photography, architecture and geology. Working at the intersection of sculpture and expanded photography, O’Donnell looks to the land and the environment to ask questions about our contemporary relationships with photographic image making and technology.
Engaging with the gallery architecture, TWO PHOTOGRAPHS AWAY explores the interplay between artwork and site to trace moments of connection and separation between objects, humans and places.
Blaine O’Donnell is currently in residence at Fire Station Artists’ Studios, Dublin.
O’Donnell received the 2019 Emerging Irish Artist Residency Award, followed by exhibitions at the Burren College of Art, Clare (2019) and 126 Gallery, Galway (2020).
Recent exhibitions include hinder/further, The Complex, Dublin (2022) and Things To Do With Photographs, Gallery Augusta, Helsinki (2023).
Recent residencies include the The Temple Bar Gallery + Studios / Helsinki International Artist Programme Residency Exchange, Finland (2023) and the The Helene Wurlitzer Foundation of New Mexico, USA (2024).
