Rose Garden
The Rose Garden
At the heart of the garden lies a charming water fountain surrounded by water lilies. The gentle sound of flowing water adds to the tranquil ambiance, creating a peaceful setting for visitors to relax and enjoy the natural beauty. Benches are strategically placed where visitors can sit and enjoy the view, while informative plaques provide details about an impressive 62 beds of roses, mostly bred by Irish people.
The Victorian Conservatory
The Victorian Conservatory, originally constructed in 1905 at Seamount, Malahide, home of the Jameson family, renowned globally for their whiskey. It was crafted by the Scottish firm McKenzie & Moncur Engineering and is believed to be a replica of a glasshouse at Balmoral in Scotland. The Treacy family, current owners of Seamount, donated the conservatory to Fingal County Council. It was then relocated to the Ardgillan Rose Garden by park staff in the mid-1990s.
A significant restoration project led by Oldstone Conservation, Lambstongue Construction and de Blacam and Meagher Architects restored the four glasshouses to their original splendor. They were reopened to the public in May 2022.
The Gardeners Cottage
The Gardener’s Cottage at Ardgillan Castle is a charming building located within the adjacent to the Rose Garden. Today it has been repurposed as Art & Design Studios, where visitors can discover the wonderful creations of local artists and designers. The nearby gardens are not only popular attractions for visitors, but they are also a stunning setting for these resident artists to draw inspiration from. The cottage retains much of its original character, providing a glimpse into the history of the estate while offering modern amenities.
