Janani Rajkumar, a former software engineer, shifted paths when she rediscovered her love
for plants and nature. She studied horticulture in India and moved to Ireland in 2016, where
her interest in gardening, biodiversity, and organic food cultivation grew.
Janani launched her terrarium business, MiniGardens, in 2021 with simple air plants and
succulent arrangements. It quickly evolved into intricate closed terrariums, which are
self-sustaining ecosystems.
MiniGardens offers workshops for corporate team-building and wellness events. She has
teamed up with Dublin’s science festival, C’mere Til I Tel Ye, for the past three years,
teaching children and adults the fascinating science behind plant terrariums. She also hosts
terrarium workshops in her studio in the Ardgillan Castle Gardener’s Cottage.
Janani, also a landscape designer, is one of the five designers of RTE’s “Super Garden
2026″ where she drew inspiration from the beautiful Irish landscape and transformed a
garden into a trek through nature. She studied Landscape Design and Construction in the
National Botanic Gardens.
She started her landscape design practice, Her Garden Studio, in 2026. She offers online
and in person garden consults. Her garden designs and planting schemes transform outdoor
spaces into naturalistic extensions of her clients’ homes. Her work prioritizes wildlife,
biodiversity and brings year round interest in gardens to enjoy during every season.
Janani transformed a decade-long career from software engineering to horticulture, driven
by her love for plants, and inspires others to reconnect with nature
