Heritage Trail Collaboration with St Joseph’s Secondary School, Rush.

Ardgillan Heritage Trail

The team at Ardgillan Castle have been working on a Heritage Trail that will be a free amenity in the public park. This trail will be created in collaboration with Fingal County Council.

This year the Culture & Heritage Officer at the castle creating a project with St Joseph’s Secondary School, Rush. This project included different TY group being brought to the castle throughout the year with their teacher Ms. Dunleavy. The groups were brought on a tour of the trail with the castle manager and got the chance to learn about the hidden features in the landscape. As part of their visit they would pick a different aspect of the trail and they would submit a piece on this feature. This work was done with their teacher and was a great way to get the students to engage with the history of the park.

The trail once completed will be dotted around the park and will represent the hidden history that lies in the park. It will include places that are no longer used, buildings that have been demolished and aspects of the park that would have been created in the Taylor’s time, such as the Ice House & the Wells.

Here are some samples of the work that was completed by the group. Big thanks to them all for taking part and to their teacher Linda Dunleavy.
